Introduced

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, the Local Government Code establishes civil service requirements
for fire fighters and police officers in a city with a population of 1.5
million or more that has adopted the Fire Fighter and Police Officer Civil
Service Act. At this time, only the City of Houston is affected by the
civil service requirements. H.B. 3124 amends the Local Government Code to
require that all fire fighters meet the civil service requirements.

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.
