HBA-TYH H.C.R. 124 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisH.C.R. 124 By: Seaman State, Federal & International Relations 4/19/1999 Introduced BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The Asian Cultures Museum & Educational Center in Corpus Christi is a resource that has benefited the citizens of Corpus Christi for nearly a quarter of a century. Founded in 1974 by Mrs. Billie Trimble Chandler, the museum houses an extensive collection of Asian artifacts and is the only gallery of its kind in Texas. The majority of the museum's collection was brought from Japan to America in the 1950s, and the facility's numerous exhibits also include pieces from China, Korea, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, and other countries of Southeast Asia. Currently, its operation is financed through the support of its patrons within the community. The facility does not receive any state appropriations. H.C.R. 59 designates Corpus Christi's Asian Cultures Museum & Educational Center the Official State Museum of Asian Cultures. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS H.C.R. 124 designates Corpus Christi's Asian Cultures Museum & Educational Center the Official State Museum of Asian Cultures. Provides that an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display in the museum as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
