BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Tejano R.O.O.T.S. (Remembering Our Own Tejano Stars) was chartered on June
9, 1999, with the primary goal of developing and establishing the Tejano
Music Hall of Fame Museum (museum) in Alice, Texas. The museum is intended
to preserve, maintain, promote, and display historical documents,
artifacts, and audio and video recordings documenting the rich Tejano music
heritage of South Texas. The museum will also honor Tejano artists,
musicians, composers, producers, and other individuals who have contributed
to Tejano music. Since the launching of Ideal Records in Alice, Texas in
the 1940s, Alice has been known as "The Birthplace of Tejano." House Bill
1019 designates the museum in Alice as the official Texas Tejano Music Hall
of Fame.
