BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, the statutory county court system in Denton County is not
adequately accommodating the general civil caseload. If an additional
civil court were created, it would help reduce the civil caseload in Denton
County. House Bill 2314 creates County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton
County.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

House Bill 2314 amends the Government Code to create County Court at Law
No. 2 of Denton County.

Denton County. The bill provides that appeals in all cases from judgments
and orders of the County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County are to the
court of appeals as provided for an appeal from a district or county court.

EFFECTIVE DATE

May 1, 2002.
