BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Current law requires the board of trustees of each school district to
publish an annual performance report describing the educational performance
of the district and each of its schools. The report must include uniform
student performance and descriptive information. Senate Bill 208 provides
that a performance report must also include information related to the
performance of the district's high school graduates in college.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

Senate Bill 208 amends the Education Code to provide that in addition to
other information, the report must include information received from
postsecondary institutions regarding the academic performance of students
who graduated from the high school during the first year the students are
enrolled.

EFFECTIVE DATE

September 1, 2001.
