HBA-NRS S.B. 334 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisS.B. 334 By: Van de Putte Public Education 5/16/2001 Engrossed BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Currently, the Texas Department of Human Services (DHS) administers the Summer Food Service Program (summer program) providing free or reduced-price meals to eligible children in various school districts. Senate Bill 334 requires DHS to prepare quarterly reports summarizing the progress of DHS in implementing the outreach program designed to increase participation in the summer program. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. ANALYSIS Senate Bill 334 amends the Human Resources Code to require the Texas Department of Human Services (DHS) to prepare quarterly reports summarizing the progress of DHS in implementing the outreach program designed to increase participation in the Summer Food Service Program and to file those reports with the standing committees of the senate and house of representatives having primary jurisdiction over health and human services. EFFECTIVE DATE September 1, 2001.
