HBA-LJP S.B. 497 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisS.B. 497 By: Shapleigh State Affairs 5/10/2001 Engrossed BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE State agencies that receive over $175 million in general appropriations are required to post certain information on the Internet. However, current law does not expressly authorize state agencies to post information on the Internet. Senate Bill 497 authorizes a state agency to post on an Internet site any nonconfidential information related to the programs, activities, or functions of the agency. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. ANALYSIS Senate Bill 497 amends the Government Code to authorize each state agency that maintains a generally accessible Internet site or for which a generally accessible Internet site is maintained to post on the site any nonconfidential information related to the programs, activities, or functions of the agency. EFFECTIVE DATE September 1, 2001.
