HBA-KDB S.B. 629 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisS.B. 629 By: Staples Judicial Affairs 4/4/2001 Engrossed BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Under current law, an oath in this state may be administered by certain judges, the governor, the secretary of state, the lieutenant governor, and others. However, the attorney general is not granted the same authority to administer an oath in this state and to give a certificate of the fact. Senate Bill 629 authorizes the attorney general to administer an oath in this state and to give a certificate of the fact. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. ANALYSIS Senate Bill 629 amends the Government Code to authorize the attorney general to administer an oath made in this state and to give a certificate of the fact. EFFECTIVE DATE August 27, 2001.
