BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Under current law, an oath in this state may be administered by certain
judges, the governor, the secretary of state, the lieutenant governor, and
others. However, the attorney general is not granted the same authority to
administer an oath in this state and to give a certificate of the fact.
Senate Bill 629 authorizes the attorney general to administer an oath in
this state and to give a certificate of the fact.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

Senate Bill 629 amends the Government Code to authorize the attorney
general to administer an oath made in this state and to give a certificate
of the fact.

EFFECTIVE DATE

August 27, 2001.
