- Examine the success of day care services for state employees as being piloted by the Department of Transportation.
- Monitor the consolidation of environmental agencies forming the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission, which regulates the state's environmental resources, natural resources and energy resources.
- Monitor the Texas Worker's Compensation Commission for accomplishment of its mission and goals.
- Study the development of the high-speed rail.
- Review the administration of the retirement system with special emphasis on the oversight mechanisms and cost.
- Monitor the Joint Committee on Higher Education.
- Monitor the Punishment Standards Committee.
- Monitor the consolidation of the Health and Human Services Agencies.
- Study the nursing home rates.
- Study the exempt salary schedule.
- Monitor federal action that affects Texas appropriations
- Monitor and oversee legislation enacted during the 72nd Regular and Special Called Sessions that was considered by the Appropriations Committee; Performance Audit Review Recommendations; and any agency-initiated changes.

Carry out budget and oversight responsibilities for all agencies, boards, and commissions listed in Rule 3, Section 2.
A. Monitor and oversee documentation of salary increases.
B. Verify the number and status of outcomes and outputs as identified in the Appropriations Bill (HB 1, 72nd Legislature, 1st Called Session).
C. Review agencies' existing performance standards and determine whether new standards are needed.
