United States Marine Corps, Captain, World War I. "At the outbreak of World War I on April 6, 1917, he volunteered for military service. He was a member of the first Marine Officers' School in Quantico, Virginia and was a member of the First Marine Aviation Force. He served overseas on the Belgian Front and was promoted to Captain while on overseas duty. In April, 1919, he was honorably discharged from the Marines." 52nd Legislature, R.S., HSR 31.
