Photo and biographical sketch, William Oscar Stamps, "They Left Their Footprints Here," The Gilmer Mirror, 8/15/1968, p. 61, crediting Lee Public Library. Born in Alabama, married to Florence Corine Rosser of Leesburg, Stamps community in Upshur County named for him. "He was elected to the Texas Legislature in 1909, and served two terms. Also serving at the time were Sam Rayburn and President Johnson's father. Gov. O.B. Colquitt appointed him head of the Texas Prison System and this place he held until Jim Ferguson was elected Governor and he came home to go into private business."
