  • Biographical sketch, Vernon E. Middlebrook, Volume V, pp. 302-303. "He was in the General Assembly in 1903, and among other good work attributed to him in the Legislature was his support of the good roads movement. He has been called the father of good roads in Nacogdoches County. He secured the passage through the House of a bill appropriating money to preserve the old stone fort in Nacogdoches. This bill was vetoed by Governor Lanham." Texas Under Many Flags, 1930.
