  • Obituaries, "Ripe Scholar Called Beyond: John Drayton Pitts Was Poet, Lawyer and Historian . . . ," Los Angeles Times (Los Angeles, California), 5/14/1919, part II, pp. 1-2. John Drayton Pitts, born in Georgia 62 years ago, died in Los Angeles 5/12/1919. "He was a leader and member of the Legislature, and was one of the legislative committee appointed to inquire into the charges against ex-United States Senator [Joseph Weldon] Bailey, in connection with the Waters-Pierce Oil Company." Includes poetry of John D. Pitts written after the Los Angeles Times building was destroyed, 10/1/1910.
