Born 9/26/1811 in Frederick County, Maryland, son of Gen. Horatio Philpott. "Of his early life in Alabama, we have not much data before us. We learn that by the age of 21, he was a clerk in the State Senate of Alabama; at the age of 25 he commanded a company in the Florida War against the Indians in 1835, and afterwards served one or two terms in the Alabama Legislature, but whether Senator or Representative we do not remember. He came to Texas in 1851, and in 1852 located in Freestone, and lived in this county until his death on the 17th of November last . . . from 1878 to 1882 he represented Freestone county in the Legislature."
