Biographical Sketches

  • Alfred S. and Pulaski A. Thurmond mentioned in biographical sketch of brother, Columbus Lafayette Thurmond, pp. 100-101:
"Alfred Seymour [Thurmond], a lawyer of Victoria . . . His brother Alfred organized a company in San Antonio for the Confederate service during the war, of which he was made Captain, and he was with Green's Brigade in all the engagements of the trans-Mississippi Department. He was later a member of the Texas Legislature, and was a man of note. While on board a schooner bound from Rockport to Tucpan, Mexico, he was lost at sea and nothing has ever since been heard of the vessel or people."
"Dr. Pulaski A. Thurmond, still another brother, became a resident of the Lone Star State in 1854-55 and settled in Lavaca County, his death resulting from the kick of a horse in 1880 at Hallettsville."
