"Ben Edwards, a young lawyer, had come to San Antonio from Kentucky in 1846 shortly before Texas entered the Union. He was active politically in the new State and, with Samuel Maverick and John Crawford, represented his District in the State Legislature in 1853." Kerrville Mountain Sun.

"The next generation was Benjamin Elisha Edwards (1825-1858), who was born in Kentucky, and came to San Antonio in 1846 as Texas was preparing to enter the Union. He was an attorney and politically active as a Representative for Bexar County," married Susan Hinckley Mudge in New Orleans, children Nell, Frank, and Willis G. Edwards. The family moved to Illinois after Willis' birth in 1857. Ben Edwards died in 1858 of "milk poisoning." Portal to Texas History (University of North Texas Libraries).
