Military Service Notes
- "Colonel Ellis served with the 36th Texas National Guard Division during World War I, and the 4th Infantry USA in the Army of Occupation in Germany following the Armistice. In 1940, he organized and commanded Company D Texas Defense Guard. In 1944, he assisted in the organization of the First Airborne Task Force of the Invasion of Southern France. In recognition he received the Legion of Merit. Subsequent duty included Army Ground Forces Liaison Officer between Washington, D.C. and all European Theatre Airborne Units." Austin American-Statesman.
