  • United States Army, Private. "Pvt. Daniel Slipped One Over on the Boys," 8/22/1943, p. 11. Abilene Reporter-News.
  • United States Army, Captain, World War II. " . . . Daniel earned the respect of his colleagues and in early 1943 was unanimously elected speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. After serving one term in that office he enlisted in the army as a private and the following year graduated from officers' candidate school in Lexington, Virginia, as a judge advocate general. He was discharged from the army in May 1946 with the rank of captain, after having served in the Pacific and Japan." Handbook of Texas Online.
