Harrell, deceased, presented his certificate of election and was sworn in as representative of the First district. Mr. Brooks classes himself as an independent in politics." (2) The democrats voted for Frank Brooks (Ind.) over Meredith (Pop.). Little interest was taken and a light vote was polled, "Representative Elected," 4/9/1895, p. 6, Galveston Daily News.
(3) F.M. Brooks, sworn 4/16/1895, succeeded R.D. Harrell, died 3/10/1895. Members of the Texas Congress 1836-1845; Members of the Texas Legislature 1846-2004, 2005.
