Biographical Sketches
- J.L. Carpenter relocated to Mangum, Oklahoma, in 1902; married Miss Charlie Meacham in June 1903; served in the 4th legislature (1913) of the Oklahoma State Senate, as Greer County (Oklahoma) judge, then Oklahoma school land department lawyer; and died 3/8/1943 at his home in Oklahoma City.
"J.L. Carpenter, Esq., of Bonham, Texas, arrived in Mangum on Tuesday's evening's train, and will locate here for the practice of his profession . . . Mr. Carpenter has twice represented his county, Fannin, in the state legislature, and has succeeded as an attorney among strong legal lights of the Lone Star State." Mangum Weekly Star (Mangum, Oklahoma), 5/29/1902, p. 5.
