  • Confederate States Army, ". . . he enlisted in Company D, Fourth Alabama regiment, as a private; was promoted to position of surgeon in the C.S. Navy in the spring of 1862, under command of Admiral Buchanan, and during the latter part of the war was in charge of the hospital at Mobile."
