"I feel it due to my sense of honor, and the people among whom I have lived for seventeen years, to decline to hold my seat, unless my right to the same is unquestionable. I therefore ask to be allowed to resign in favor of my contestant." House Journal.
(2) Bluford W. Brown, sworn 1/17/1873, took the seat of Edward Sharp, withdrew from election contest the same day. Members of the Texas Congress 1836-1845; Members of the Texas Legislature 1846-2004, 2005.
