Mexican War Veteran. Claiborne Caleb Herbert, born c. 1814, death date 7/5/1867, son of Nathaniel and Clarissa (Jones) Herbert, burial in Reels Bend Cemetery, Colorado County. Colorado County Cemetery Records, 2009.
"Upon outbreak of the Civil War he was captain of a home guard at Eagle Lake, near his home. By June 1861 he was serving as an aid-de-camp in the Tenth District, comprising Milam, Burleson, Washington, Austin, and Colorado counties, where he attained the rank of colonel." Handbook of Texas Online.
