Charges
- A study of the use and desirability of arbitration as a possible remedy to overloaded court dockets in Texas.
- A review of the probate laws of Texas, including a study of the advantages and disadvantages of enacting, in whole or in part, the Uniform Probate Code. This study should also include recommendations as to the need for further recodification of the existing probate laws.
- A study of the effectiveness of and cost to the state and local governments of the enforcement and collection of child support payments. This study should include recommendations as to the need for uniformity in policy or a statewide system for the collection and enforcement of such payments and the consideration of the related items such as voluntary assignment of wages, offset welfare payments, etc.

Oversight responsibility of agency expenditures and related transactions. This function shall encompass a review and monitoring of all appropriations-related actions of those agencies assigned to this committee for appropriative purposes during the 65th Regular Session of the Legislature, to wit:
Industrial Accident Board
- A study of the degree to which the educational system provides citizens with an understanding and awareness of judicial functions and purposes. This study should review the programs of the various judicially-related state agencies and make recommendations as to any needed changes in direction or scope of activity in this regard.
- A study of current access to and utilization of the courts in Texas including the extent to which courts make justice administration available in a timely and efficient manner to the citizens of Texas.
- A study of the structure, organization and functions of the various state-level judicial agencies, to include recommendations as to any necessary deletions, consolidations or expansions of agency functions.
- A study of the judicial statutes of Texas, and recommendations as to the codification thereof. This study should include recommendations as to simplification procedures in the current methodology of enacting judicially-oriented statutes, placing particular emphasis on possible methods of achieving uniformity thereof.
