Texas Army National Guard, Major. "Known to his friends and community as Rick, he graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and attended Alvin Junior College on a Rusk athletic scholarship. He completed his undergraduate education with the help of an ROTC scholarship at the University of Houston in 1984, receiving his commission in the United States Army. Rick's Army career includes airborne school and service as commander of the 143rd Infantry Detachment (Long-Range Surveillance). He was aide to Brigadier General David Heuer and aide de camp to General Samuel Turk, Adjutant General of the Texas Army National Guard.
