(1) Statement of resignation, Ed Sharp, 1/17/1873, p. 48. "I feel it due to my sense of honor, and the people among whom I have lived for seventeen years, to decline to hold my seat, unless my right to the same is unquestionable. I therefore ask to be allowed to resign in favor of my contestant." House Journal .
